The weather was frightfully February cold, but that didn't deter professional cooking team, Do-Rag Q, of Nashville, TN from cooking for the class.

THE JUDGE’S OATH: I do solemnly swear to objectively and subjectively evaluate each Barbeque meat that is presented to my eyes, my nose, my hands and my palate. I accept my duty to be an Official KCBS Certified Judge, so that truth, justice, excellence in Barbeque and the American Way of Life may be strengthened and preserved forever.

The event was held at Scoop’s Diner in the Eddyville Outlet Mall because of the large numbers of judges attending (76).

Robin Tabor, from the Lake Barkley Tourist Commission, helped organize the event. She made sure we not only learned about BBQ Judging, but also why Lake Barkley is a great place for summer fun!

My first judging card:

This is the judging card for KCBS. It is used worldwide.
Let the judging begin! These ribs looked great, but a dull knife left one judge with 2 ribs and another without anything to judge.
TC Smith, from the Castaway Cookers team out of Nashville, sat across from me during our training. His insights as a cooker, as well as a judge, were helpful.
My new dream is to, someday, own one of these bad boys. A thermostat-controlled, pellet fed, BBq-ing marvel.
