Griff Potter’s foray into the fabulous world of competition BBQ began in 1988 as part of the media cooking team for KCTV Television at the American Royal Competition in Kansas City. Within hours of inhaling the wafting flavors, imbibing copious amounts of alcohol, and soaking in the ambiance, Griff was clearly addicted.

Living in Kansas City gave him the opportunity to rub elbows with BBQ aficionados at legendary eateries like Arthur Bryant’s, Gates, upscale joints like Jack Stacks, and Oklahoma Joe’s.

Griff’s day job, as a producer, and later television executive, allowed him to sample BBQ from The Carolinas to Texas.

In February 2010, Griff’s dream of becoming a Barbecue Judge came true when he was certified by the Kansas City Barbeque Society – permanent Badge #55176. KCBS Executive Ron Harwell led Griff’s training session in Eddyville, KY.

This is the judging card for KCBS. It is used worldwide.
